Marcia Pittman, 84, passed away at her home on Friday, May 16, 2025. Services officiated by Pastor Tim Skaggs will be held Saturday, May 24, 2025, in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be Friday, May 23, 2025, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Heartland Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be at Pleasant Valley Cemetery.

Marcia was born to Bill and Virginia (Bundy) Campbell in Wellsville, Kansas on August 23, 1940. She graduated from Borger High School in 1958. She received an Associate of Arts from Frank Phillips Junior College in 1961, a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics Education and Home and Family Life from Texas Tech University in 1963.

Marcia spent more than 20 years teaching. Her first three years were spent teaching Home Economics to high school students in Grandfalls and Robert Lee, Texas. When she began teaching in Grandfalls, she met Doyle Pittman, the algebra teacher, over a pot of beans. They met in August of 1963 and married on December 22, 1963. Their 56-year marriage was blessed with 4 children, 11 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.

Marcia was a stay-at-home mother for 8 years, raising 3 kids. In May 1976, she earned a Master of Science in Early Childhood Education from East Texas State University. She taught Kindergarten in Commerce, Texas for 1 year before the birth of her 4th child. After moving to Whitehouse, TX, she taught the Pre-K class at First Baptist Tyler's Mother's Day Out program for 2 years, and then she taught Kindergarten at Cain Elementary in Whitehouse for 6 years. After moving to Early, TX, she taught Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grades as well as Home Economics for 2 years in Star, Texas. Then, she taught the Pre-K class at Coggin Avenue Baptist's Wee Kids program for 8 years before retiring to keep grandbabies while their parents worked.

Marcia and her husband were active members at Coggin Avenue Baptist Church (CABC) for over 30 years where she served for 27 years in the preschool department. She ministered to countless children over her many years of church service. Over the years, she taught Mission Friends, Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, AWANA, and Moppets. She served as the Nursery Coordinator for Gateway Baptist Church in Whitehouse for 9 years. She was also active in the community as a volunteer for numerous organizations including Girl Scouts, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), and Love Brownwood.

Amongst friends and family, she was known for cooking. She taught her kids and grandkids to cook and made innumerable cakes, cookies, and other treats for her family, friends, and neighbors. She was also known for taking pictures and then printing out multiple copies of each. She was constantly busy - cooking, making games/activities for school, Sunday School, etc. She always made sure to send birthday cards to family members near and far.

In retirement, Marcia enjoyed caring for her grandchildren and volunteering her time. After the death of her husband, she enjoyed spending time with her beloved cat, eating ice cream, and sending all the pictures she had taken to people over the years. She also enjoyed checking the mail daily to find all the "treasures" therein - calendars, address labels, pads of paper, and the occasional gardening gloves. She was known for working excessively in her yard. People all over town recognized her as the little old lady on Jenkins Spring Road who works in her yard.

Marcia is preceded in death by her husband, Doyle Pittman, her father William "Bill" Campbell, mother Virginia Campbell, father-in-law Vernon Pittman, and mother-in-law Arabella Pittman.

Marcia is survived by sister, Anita Campbell of Mesquite; brothers David and Tiata Campbell of San Antonio and Steven and Pamela Campbell of Jenks, Oklahoma; daughter, Laurie and Mary Kniffin of Flower Mound and their children Cameron Dudley and wife Nicole, Derek Rivera, and Dana Rivera; daughter, Michelle and Raymond Wells of Brownwood and their children Skyler and Peyton; son, Alan and Ashley Pittman of College Station and their children Alanna and husband Levi, Karsen, James, and Tate; daughter, Shannon and Doug Turner of Early and their children Hayden and Aaron; and great-grandchildren Chloe, Addilynn, Fallynn, and Bodey Dudley of Jacksonville and Leilani Turner of Friona.

The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Solaris Hospice and Hill Country Home Care for caring for our mother. We would also like to thank Early's Community Meal program for providing meals made with love and delivered by caring people.
