Barbara Lynn Sorensen, 59, of Bainbridge Island died Oct. 4, 2002, at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
    She was born March 24, 1943, in Seattle. She received a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Washington in Seattle.
    She had worked as a public information officer with the Washington State Ferries. Previously, she had been an elementary school teacher.
    She loved her home, family and gardening.
    Her survivors include her mother, Rhoda Ditmore of Bainbridge Island; two daughters, Lisa Matthies and her husband, Michael, and Angie Sorensen, all of Seattle; a brother, Robert Brittain of Seattle; and a grandson, Jack.
