Leela Deen (Covey)

Leela Deen (Covey)

We learned yesterday that our friend and classmate Leela Deen Covey died from that “damn cancer” which she fought optimistically and valiantly.  More details to follow should we learn them.

I don't know what to say.  That was such a struggle for Leela, and I don't think that last round of chemo helped either!
Leela was a joy to know.  We first met up in the 5th grade when we were all on the top square dance team in Bothell, all of us included Leela, me, Keith Rousu, Dennis Rousu, Carol Aries, John Radke, Ada Tuomisto, and Shelley Crist.  I remember throughout our school years, always seeing Leela with a smile on her face.  Later in life, at our class reunions, I would always get a big hug from Leela and we would laugh and brag that we were on the best square dance team.
Leela was a kind, compassionate soul and will be dearly missed.  God bless her soul and God bless her family and friends.  Love you Leela!  Love, Skip

I am sorry to hear of Leela's passing.  Wonderful that Pam was able to support her.  I knew Leela when she and I were active in the Bothell First Lutheran teen group.  Great fun and memories.  Radke and I went to PLU together and played hundreds of Rock n Roll gigs in those years.  In all that time he never mentioned square dancing.  That was quite a group Skip names!

So sorry to hear of Leela's passing. She fought long and hard to beat her cancer. I first met her in elementary school. I'm glad I got to see her on one of my trips back "home". My love, thoughts, and prayers go out to her family and friends.
