September 9, 1945 – April 17, 2024
Charles ("Chuck") Alfred Kaysner, a loving husband of 55 years, a proud father of two sons, and a doting Papa to seven grandchildren, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2024. Chuck was a caring person, generous with his time, who touched the lives of so many people in a positive manner throughout his life. Born to Chuck and Gladys Kaysner on Sept. 2, 1945, Chuck was raised in Bothell with his two sisters, Marlynn and Kathy. He graduated from Bothell High School in 1963, where he played on the basketball team, sang in the choir, and was the drum major for the band.
Chuck continued his education at Washington State University, where he was a Phi Gamma Delta, graduating in 1967 with a degree in Bacteriology and Public Health. He met his future wife, Eugenie Strommer, while they were attending related classes at WSU. After graduation, Chuck began his career at the US Food and Drug Administration, where he worked for 35 years. During his early years at FDA, he completed a Master's of Science degree from the University of Washington in 1976. He was a founding member of the FDA's Seafood Products Research Center. Chuck won numerous agency awards and recognition from scientists around the world, including the 1993/94 Who's Who Registry of Global Business Leaders. He was an innovative research scientist, respected by his peers, and a great mentor for young microbiologists.
Chuck was active in the Northshore Little League, Northshore Youth Soccer, and Northshore Youth Basketball Association as a coach and board member. He received the Canyon Creek Elementary School Golden Acorn Award for his volunteer work. From 1974 to 2002, Chuck was a volunteer firefighter and station captain with the Snohomish County Fire District #7. He was a charter member of the Bothell High School Alumni Association for over 27 years, where he was an officer and board member. Chuck was inducted into the Wall of Honor at Pop Keeney Stadium in 2022 for his outstanding volunteer work.
After retirement, Chuck loved taking his grandkids fishing and cheering them on at various sporting events. He enjoyed clam digging at the cabin at Long Beach and taking photos of the family and the beautiful scenery of our state.
Chuck is survived by his loving wife Genie and sons Darin (Krista) and Brent (M'Lissa). He was Papa "with the long legs" (at 6' 8") to his seven grandchildren: Kody, Payten, Delaney, Ciera, Cole, Tanner, and Bradyn. He is also survived by his two sisters, Marlynn McLaughlin and Kathy Buck (Larry), and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be held on May 18, 2024, at 1 p.m. at Bothell United Methodist Church, where Chuck was a member for 65 years.
