Bill Sears

William Douglas Sears, “Bill,” 85, passed away on May 8, 2011, in Boulder City. He was born on Sept. 29, 1925, in Pittsburg, Okla., to Courtney and Jennie McCardell Sears.

Bill moved with his family at an early age and lived in McKeeversville in the Boulder City Area. He attended Boulder Grade School and was in the second graduating class of Boulder City High School. Upon graduation he joined the U. S. Marine Corps. and fought during World War II and Korea.

He worked as a Hydroelectric engineer for the Bureau of Reclamation after attending the University of Nevada, then returning to Boulder City and marrying the love of his life, Ardeen Wood. In 1962, they moved their two daughters to Yuma, Ariz., and added their third daughter in 1970. After retiring from the Bureau of Reclamation after 30 years of service, the family moved back to Boulder City to be with their extended family and friends.

He was a lifelong member of the Elks. He enjoyed boating, fishing, reading, hunting quail, target shooting, playing cards and enjoying time with family and friends. He is well remembered for his southpaw pitching

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ardeen Wood Sears, BCHS Class of 1946; daughter, Karen and her husband Leonard De Joria of Overton; Jayme and husband Tyler Phillips of Henderson; son-in-law, David Moore; six grandchildren, Kaycee Allen, Karee Moore and Austin, Devin, Dakota and Tanner Phillips; and a great-granddaughter, Emma. He is preceded in death by his parents, Courtney and Jennie Sears, and a daughter, Gaylen Moore.
