A memorial Mass will be held for Dolores Strong, 86, of Tyler, on Monday, June 8, 2015, at 5 p.m. in the Chapel of Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 1435 ESE Loop 323 in Tyler. With concelebrants Bishop Joseph Strickland and Father Gus Tharappel officiating. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m.
Dolores passed away on June 4, 2015, after a brief illness. She was born Jan. 3, 1929, in Huntsville Texas, to William and Lydia Cain. The family moved to Boulder City, Nevada, where she was raised and graduated from Boulder City High School. She moved to Tyler in 1946, attended TJC and was an Apache Belle. She was a 65-year member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Tyler. She retired in 1984 from ARCO as an executive secretary after 25 years.
Dolores was a woman of remarkable courage, wisdom, strength and thoughtfulness; a true, caring friend to all who knew her. She was a past volunteer for many charities and organizations for which she gave selflessly of her time, talent and money. She enjoyed gardening and had quite the green thumb.
Dolores was preceded in death by her parents and husbands, Hal Coke, Herbert Bryce Parker Jr. and Morgan Strong. She is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Gary Gibbons, of Lake Tyler; sons, Mike Coke (Suzy), of Flint, Joe Coke (Jana), of Tyler; grandchildren, Jeff Coke (Mendi), of Flint, and Angie McClure (Wes), of Bullard; four great-grandchildren; sister, Norma Helfrick and niece, Adele Basye, of Athens; nephew, John Shilstone, of Slidell, Louisiana; brother, William Cain, of Altoona, Pennsylvania; sons-in-law, Scott Parker, Mark Strong (Martha), Brad Strong (Lisa) and Joe Strong; daughter-in-law, Melinda Allen (Rick); along with their children and grandchildren.
