 Dennis Raymond Whalen departed this life at the Southeast LA War Veterans Home on June 4, 2015. He was born in Mairacaibo, Venezuela, on October 2, 1929, to Luke Whalen and Lillian Hastings Whalen where his father was employed by Standard Oil. He leaves his wife of 61 years, Marjorie Golus Whalen, sons Michael, Patrick, Timothy and wife, Suzanne Mayer Whalen, Thomas, Barry and wife Shannon Roberts Whalen, Mark Whalen, and daughter, Kathleen Whalen. Grandsons are Chandler, Nicholas, Lee Taylor, Chase, Ashton, Joshua, Luke, Phoenix Roberts, Jordan Whalen McCormick and wife Jana Marie. Granddaughters are Shelby Whalen, Abigail Whalen Hanson and husband Daniel, and Adele Whalen McCormick. Great granddaughters are Kay Leigh Hanson and Stella Hanson. Great grandson is Kellen Hanson. Other family members are Ann Marie Whalen, Lee Whalen St. Angelo, Kelly Whalen McCormick, and Stephanie Whalen Hyde. Dennis is survived by three brothers, three sister in-laws, one sister, many nephews, nieces, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Donald Whalen, sister, Karen Whalen O'Brien, and a son, James Dennis Whalen. Dennis grew up in Boulder City, Nevada. He was employed by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation when living in Loup City Nebraska. In his career in the United States Army, he served in combat, 7th Infantry Division, Korean Conflict, 1951-52, and in the Army of Occupation in Germany, 1954-57. Mr. Whalen attended LSU at the Paul N. Hebert Law Center, graduated in 1962. He was a practicing attorney for 52 years in the Baton Rouge area. He enjoyed children, hunting, fishing and politics. The family wishes to thank the Doctors, Nurses and Staff at the Lady of the Lake Hospital, Baton Rouge General, Pinnacle Home Health, Crossings Palliative Care, St. James Hospital, and Southeast LA War Veterans Home for their assistance in the past year.
