BARRY WHALEN OBITUARY

Barry H. Whalen (88) of Boulder City, Nevada passed away peacefully on January 6, 2023, in Danville, California. He was born to Luke and Lillian Hastings Whalen on May 27, 1934.
Barry is survived by his wife of 64 years, Margie Whalen. He is also survived by his son John and his wife Carolyn, his brothers Brian Whalen (Kress), his sister Patsy Nolan, Luke Whalen Jr., and his sister-in-law Marjorie Whalen and nieces and nephews.
Barry was pre-deceased by his daughter, Joan Catherine Whalen, his parents Luke and Lillian Whalen, his brothers Donald and Dennis, his sister Karen Whalen O'Brien, and his brother-in-law Patrick Nolan.
Barry was one of seven children who grew up in Boulder City, Nevada with his four brothers and two sisters.
He was always interested in mathematics and science. He served in the US Army where he started studying electrical engineering. Barry met Margie at a Newman Club Dance at CAL Berkely when she was an undergraduate studying for her teaching degree while he was studying for his PhD in electrical engineering.
He worked at TRW for 20 years as an engineering manager in a variety of military and space related projects. He was a Sr. VP with Microelectronics Computer Technology Corp, which was an electronics industry consortium based in Austin, TX. Later he was the CEO for Conductus which was a company that made high-speed electronic circuits with exquisitely sensitive sensors using high-temperature conductors.
Barry was a generous man who loved his family and friends. He was always eager to help people in any way he could. He was a wonderful dad to John and Joanie as well as a wonderful uncle to his nieces and nephews. He was interested in all of Joanie and John's extracurricular school activities where he coached their sports teams. He always loved a challenge, and his passion was solving complicated mathematical problems include his study of the Pyramid's after he retired.
