Joe along with Chuck Greenwood were our heroes when growing up in Boulder City.  Joe lived on C Street and I lived on D street.  The Kine residence was a place where kids congregated.  At the Kine home a trapeze was set up where we all took a turn swinging.  There was also a basketball hoop where so many kids learned to play.

Several boys who resided in the neighborhood were along with Joes  family, Dorothy and Dean were Bilbo Helms, Churck Greenwood , Joe Howard, Larry and Roger Barnson, Roger Likens, John and Bill Sharp, and Paul Burt.

Joe was a terrific sprinter, and a great football halfback.  Joe and Chuck would help coach us younger kids in football.  We had not helmets, but the High School was discarding helmets and we young kids were able to obtain them.

The Henderson kids had uniforms and  an organized football team.  Somehow a game was scheduled with them in Henderson.  Here we were with old helmets with the name of Kine, Greenwood, Rants, Swift, etc  written inside and a few of us had discarded shoulder pads, blue jeans, and tennis shoes.  Somehow we beat the uniformed players.  Joe Kine and  Chuck Greenwood were responsible for us having a least a concept of designing a play.  John Sharp the next door neighbor of Joe scored the only touchdown of the game.

I recall  Kine, Alexander, Ship, and Swift making a relay record at the Modesto Relays that remained a record for many years.

While attending college I met a Professor Richard Wirthlin who had played football at the University of Utah with Joe. He  commented on his good character and athletic ability.

Great memories of good times spent in the Kiine neighborhood.

Bill Boggs (1956)

On Feb. 1950, my mom gave me a birthday party at our house at 500 Arizona Street. It was to celebrate my 12th year.

Unknown to me, Mom invited Chuck Greenwood, Joe Kine and Jack Rants as special guests!  They were kind enough

to a young kid (12!) to attend. Mom arranged for master photographer, Mark Swain, to drop by and take pictures.

I  have a great photo framed and on my office wall of the 4 of us in front of my house at 500 Arizona Street!

Needless to say, I was thrilled to have Varsity football players present at my party!!

I still feel real young - - until I try to do much activity!!!

A big Hello to any former Boulder City residents that read this....
