Paul SCOTT Obituary

Paul passed on Saturday, July 29th, 2023, with his wife, Kathie, at his side in their home. Paul was born in Brooklyn, NY, on December 6th, 1934, to Walter L. Scott and Doris Leadbitter, and brother Jack. In the winter of 1943, the Scott family boarded a train and moved to Hollywood, CA, as his father got a job with "Con Edison", after a short time in Hollywood they would proceed to move at least yearly, or more to many towns in California and Nevada as part of his father's career with "Con-Edison". Paul's favorite place was in Bishop, CA, located between the Sierra Nevada and the White Mountains where he would spend all his spare time roaming the mountains with his dog, Rusty. Paul graduated from Boulder City High School, Boulder City, NV, in 1953, and Long Beach State College in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. In 1953 Paul married Dawn Tilman and they had four children, Robin, Ellen, Bonnie, and Paul Christopher. They lived in Seal Beach, CA, and then Huntington Beach, CA, and later divorced. Paul's career began with "American Building Maintenance", he then worked at "North American Rockwell" in the 1960s to early 1970s during the time of the space programs, in both companies he managed the building maintenance programs. Once the "Apollo" program was complete he moved on to become a business owner in Huntington Beach, CA, buying various building maintenance businesses which he sold in 1978. Since he had worked since he was 10, he decided to take some time off and was able to play tennis 5-6 days a week for several months, instead of 2-3 days a week while still working. Paul met Kathie Sculley while living in Huntington Beach. They loved the ocean and the outdoor activities California had to offer but decided to move to Spokane, WA. They could live in a nice small town and Paul's son could get a quality high school education. Kathie and Paul were married in Coeur d'Alene in 1979. At that time Paul began to play "Pickle Ball" as there was a waiting list for the tennis clubs. He and his partner did so well that they played in many tournaments on the West side of the state for several years. In 1980 they purchased AAmerican Cleaning which they expanded and renamed American Cleaning Bob's, then in 1985, Paul was approached to do carpet inspections by a local carpet dealer and a carpet salesman. So, he did the necessary training and began Textile Inspection Service, a new and upcoming service used by the flooring manufacturing industry. Several years later the two businesses became independent companies, Kathie running AACB and Paul running TIS and back to playing tennis several times a week until 2017, then he resumed playing pickleball until 2020. In the summer of 2018, Kathie sold AACB. They sold their home of 38 years where Paul designed garden beds, a pond, walkways, etc. while Kathie planted the garden beds and weeded. They enjoyed semi-retirement as their business covered 4 states and traveling, they also had time to resume work on his family tree. Paul's great-great-grandfather Pennington and his children were the first white family to settle in the state of Arizona and his great-grandparents, Larcena Pennington Scott, and Judge Fisher Scott were founding residents of Tucson, AZ. Paul is survived by his son Paul Christopher and his wife Lanette, daughter Bonnie Scott and seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and his wife Kathie. He was predeceased by his parents, brother, aunts, and daughters, Robin and Ellen. We would like to thank his wonderful doctors and their staff, Hospice of Spokane for their amazing care, our neighbors and friends for your help during Paul's last week, our granddaughter Brandi, her husband William, and their children for all their help the last several years. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Hospice of Spokane, Meals on Wheels, or SCRAPS. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, August 28th at 1:00 pm, at Hennessey Valley Funeral Home 1315 N. Pines Rd. Spokane Valley, WA. To share memories of Paul and leave condolences for the family, please visit www.hennesseyvalley.com.
