
Mary Jean Hackwood
Mary Jean Hackwood passed into the arms of her Savior on July 20, 2012 at Mount Vernon, Washington. Mary Jean’s family were long time residents of Alaska. She graduated from Juneau-Douglas High School, class of 1953, and The University of Nevada at Reno, class of 1959. She was preceded in death by her father, AW Hackwood, mother Gertrude Stimson, brother Colornal AW Hackwood, sister Kathryn Jane Freeman, Sister Elizabeth Jensen, nephew Jon Leigh-Kendall.
Saviors include: Nephews and Nieces, Thomas Leigh-Kendall, Kathryn Lewis, Richard Leigh-Kendall, Mary Jane Pilgren, Susan Lucky, and many grand and extended family from Main to WA and in AK.
She worked at the State of Alaska and started the State’s retirements system with the Teacher’s retirement system back in the 1950’s. She then went to Hughes Air West where she was the Retirement System Administrator. When Hughes Air West sold, she went to the State of Missouri and administered the retirement system for them. After that, she was administrator for the retirement system of Orange County, California before retiring to Mt. Vernon, Washington in the 1980’s.

Mary Jean’s family lived in Boulder City, Nevada in the early years and she is remembered by several of her schoolmates who graduated in 1954.
