Mary Ann Morang, 79, of Boulder City, passed away at home peacefully, November 15, 2017. She was born Oct 9, 1938 in Youngstown, Ohio to Gethen D. and LaVerne Thomas. The family moved to Boulder City when Mary Ann was 10 years old. Mary Ann graduated from Boulder City High School in 1956.
After high school, Mary Ann moved to San Francisco to attend nursing school. Meeting a marine, she married, Robert Kania and had 4 children. After parting with this marine, she moved back to Boulder City, where she went to work for the Bureau of Reclamation, starting as an Operator. She was busy taking care of her children when she met the love of her life, Edwin S. (Ned) Morang, doing one of her favorite pastimes, bowling. The two were sneaky and decided to splurge on the children at the moves that they were married! She continued to work at the Bureau, working her way up to the accounting department where she eventually retired after 30 years.
Mary Ann, not one to sit still for long, went to work at Railroad Pass as a hostess/ cashier, working there for 9 years. She enjoyed working and meeting people. Mary Ann has been in Boulder City most of her life and knew most of the families that had been here. From the early days of her children’s sports to the later days of her bowling, she enjoyed her fun times.
Mary Ann and Ned enjoyed many things together, including bowling, found and square dancing, playing games, playing softball, where Ned was the coach, camping and the beach. She enjoyed meeting with her KIT (Keep In Touch) friends after her square and round dancing ended and having lunch with her USBR colleagues. She also enjoyed reading in her spare time.
Mary Ann is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother, Thomas. She is survived by her four children, Kathy of Boulder City, Robert (Judy) of Las Vegas, Kenneth (Laurie) of Boulder City, and Janine (Russell) of Boulder City, and stepdaughter Beth Gilbert (Bryan) of San Clemente, CA; 19 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and longtime friend and sister-in-law, Lois Bush. Services will be held Sunday, November 26th, 2017 at 2 pm at Palm Henderson. A reception following at 1610 Broadmoor Circle, Boulder City.
