Victor VerBrugghen - Class Of 1957

 April 18, 1939 - April 30, 2015 Victor VerBrugghen, CPA, age 76, died peacefully with family at his side after a yearlong battle with cancer. Born in Little Falls, Minnesota, to Marcel and Ruth VerBrugghen, Vic grew up in MInnesota, Ohio, Washington and Nevada, where he graduated from Boulder City High School. After serving with the US Army in Germany, he attended Oregon State University for his BS, where he was a Life Loyal member of Sigma Chi fraternity. He received his MBA from the University of Santa Clara. He joined Shell Oil Co. as an accounting manager and served also on the internal audit staff. Leaving Shell, he became the Controller at the Independent Journal newspaper in Marin County. He moved to the Daily News in Los Angeles where he was a Vice-President, well-liked and esteemed by his co-workers, serving as a valuable mentor for several of them. Since 1995 he has maintained an accounting and tax practice in Woodland Hills and developed many wonderful friendships with his valued longstanding clients. A lifelong sports enthusiast, Vic played Little League baseball, basketball and baseball in high school and the Army, and became an outstanding tennis player. He loved to watch football, tennis, the Clippers and the Angels on television, and traveled throughout Southern California to play in and watch tennis tournaments. An avid photographer, he was seldom without his camera. His family, friends and activities are well documented in thousands of photos. In later years he particularly enjoyed going back East for reunions with his Army buddies. We remember his dry wit, his loyalty to friends and family, his strong advocacy for his beliefs. He will be sorely missed by those who loved him; family, friends clients, co-workers, tennis and Army buddies. Survivors include his wife of forty years, Susan, his daughters Katerina Bond (Brett), Kasandra VerBrugghen (Andreas Schmidt), and Adina VerBrugghen, granddaughter Jessica Powers and great granddaughter Harley Powers, and brother Adrien VerBrugghen. A memorial service followed by a reception will be held Saturday, May 30, at two p.m. at Prince of Peace Episcopal Church, 5700 Rudnick Ave., Woodland Hills CA 91367.
