Barbara Bates (Severson) (1958)

I had lunch with Maryellen in Prescott a few years ago and she brought her yearbook with her.  She opened it to  my graduation picture and pointed out that I was involved in so many extra-curricular activities and then she turned to her page and, again, pointed out that nothing was listed under her name.  Then she explained that her mother was ill and I believe she said that she was confined to a wheel chair.  It was up to Maryellen to go home as soon as school was out to do the cleaning, cooking, etc. There was no time for after school activities.  Then she said something that I will always treasure.  She said "But you were kind to me."  What a treasure that is to me to be remembered in that way.  Thank you, Maryellen.  She also said that she had found her voice and shared with me the many good works that she and her husband had been involved in--what a treasured afternoon!
