Other than immediate family members, Dale is the person I spent more time with during my entire life. From the earliest grades in school when we would recruit his father into judging who could spell Czechoslovakia the fastest or name the capital of the state/country he would call out or sitting most days next to their family radio to visualize every movement of "Sky King" and his dogs plowing through the snow and ice of the Yukon Territory (I hope I don't have that confused with the countless other radio dramas we listened to!) after which we were treated by his mom to the most delicious peanut butter sandwiches ever. We scoured the endless desert (which started one house from mine at California and Fifth Street for Indian arrowheads, artifacts from General Patton's camp preparing for his WWII North African campaign, (fortunately nothing exploded!), gathered cooking grease, wax and metals for the war effort, built dams of mud during summer thunderstorms to enable us to swim briefly, play endless baseball games on our huge kid-centric California Avenue/playground neighborhood (Mayes, Traasdahl,Rose, Atkins, Fenton), riding our bikes all over town and out on the desert where we never seemed to take enough water and seemingly risked dying of thirst.
My mom would take us to swim at Boulder Beach and we learned to swim from that greatest of Boulderites, Alice Berry, whose missionary determination still, 70 years later, makes BC one of the most water-proofed communities on the planet. During high school Dale participated on sports teams (which I reported on for the Sun and RJ), however we separated until I transferred in my junior year of college to BYU and was baptized by Dale. This opened the world to me that we imagined as kids. Not long after that I took my first airplane ride and visited and lived in my first foreign country (Chile). Fifty two countries later and still counting, with tears rolling down, I owe so much to Dale and his father. Thank you, DALE IMLAY!

Dale Imlay
After college and in the process of building a resume, I had the privilege of landing an accounting position in my hometown with the Bureau of Reclamation. That privilege included working for the Comptroller, Dale Imlay. Being a few years ahead of me in high school, we were unknown to each other. So we took off from ground zero.
Dale was not just a Supervisor but a mentor who significantly shaped my career. His pleasant demeanor and sharp skills made him a great person to be associated with. I learned a great deal about working for the Government with Dale and his team. We even managed a few quail hunting trips while I was there. I could have comfortably made this my career choice, but I wasn't sure about ending my search.
Unfortunately, I never saw Dale again; it was a heartbreaking day when I learned of his passing. His absence is deeply felt, and his legacy of service to our Fed Gov't., Boulder Dam Credit Union, and his Faith will always be remembered.
Thanks, Dale
Sincerely,
Wm Lawellin
