May 19, 1942-May 7, 2023
Charles Pryor Nelson, 80 years old, born May 19, 1942, in Cedar City, Utah, to parents Edward Andrew Nelson and Margaret Pryor, died May 7, 2023, in St. George, Utah.
Charles, aka Chuck or Charlie, was raised in Boulder City, Nevada spending his summers farming with the Pryor family in Cedar City. He learned at a very early age the importance of working hard and getting the work done so he could spend fun time with the cousins and other friends.
After graduating high school, he attended the College of Southern Utah in Cedar City with a baseball scholarship. After evaluating his life and realizing he needed to make some needed changes, he decided the best thing would be for him to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He was called to serve a 30-month mission in Spanish Speaking Central America — all six countries. After completion of that service, he returned to college in Cedar City. He graduated with an Associate Engineering Degree and then transferred to Utah State University in Logan, Utah, to earn his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.
He moved to Boulder City, Nevada, and worked for Holmes & Narver Engineering at the Nevada Test Site. He became the City Engineer of Boulder City. The family later moved to California when Charles was appointed Project Director of the South Pacific Projects. At the completion of that, he moved the family to Ivins, Utah.
Charles loved to play baseball, golf, hunt, dance and play games with his grandchildren.
Preceded in death by son Jerry Duane Nelson, he is survived by his wife of 36 years, Pennie Nelson; 7 living children, Troy Nelson (Lydia), Angela Sherrill, Dona Ross (Andrew), Deana Hinchcliff (Lora), Lisa Watson (James), David Hale (KayLynn), Rashell Nicholson (Nick); 18 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Celebration of Life to be held May 19, from 7-9 p.m., at the recreation hall of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 591 W 500 North, St. George.
Condolences may be shared on the McMillan Mortuary website.

Being a childhood neighbor and friend wth Charlie and his family I have many great memories of fun loving Charlie. We shared many good times, playing various sports in the streets, parks, schools and churches of Boulder City. But most memorable is the many hunting trips and camping in the Ruby Mountains of Nevada. And there was dancing at the Teenage Club, and some of the class reunions. I still hear his chuckles and see his ready smile in my mind and am so very happy to have been his friend.
