VERNON ROWLEY JR. Vernon Conrad "Con" Rowley Jr., of St. George, Utah, passed away Jan. 2, 2014. He was 81 years old. He was born March 1, 1932, in Bunkerville. He attended Blanding Elementary and San Juan High School in Blanding, Utah before receiving a basketball scholarship to attend Dixie College. A military veteran, he rose to the level of sergeant in the U.S. Army before continuing his education and completing his doctorate in education at Brigham Young University. In 1960, he married Geraldine Wadsworth and, together, they had seven children, Vynette (Kirk) Arnell, Derek (Genine), Trevor (Kristen), Karis (Jocelyn), Quinten (Jill), Rachelle (James) Miller and Camille (Matt) Campbell. He spent his career involved in education as a teacher, principal, and administrator, and later as Utah State Budget Analyst for Public Education and Education Deputy for Governor Mike Leavitt. Upon retirement, he tended to Geraldine through a lengthy illness. After Geraldine's passing in 2006, he was remarried to Rexine Waldron. With Rexine, he was able to achieve his goal of serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, New Hampshire-Manchester Mission. A kind, loving man, of humor and generosity of spirit, he enjoyed sports and time spent with loved ones. He will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine Rowley. He is survived by his wife, Rexine; his seven children; 28 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was loved and is additionally survived by Rexine's family including five children; and 13 grandchildren. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Perpetual Education Fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Viewing will be 5-7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 5. There will be a second viewing 8:30-9:45 a.m. Monday, Jan. 6, with services following at 10 a.m., all at the St. George LDS Chapel, 1762 S. River Road, St. George. Interment will be at 3 p.m. (Utah time) in the Panaca City Cemetery, Panaca. Arrangements are made under direction of Spilsbury Mortuary, (435) 673-2454.
