Mike Coggins - Class Of 1961

Mike Coggins

Mike Coggins was born July 17, 1943 and died of lung cancer on October 25, 2011 in Winter Haven, Florida.  Mike is survived by two daughters, many loving friends, and multiple ex-wives who all still liked him.  Mike served our country as a US Navy medic, served his city as a police officer and served his fellow cancer patients by submitting to experimental treatment during his Stage IV process. He was an accomplished tournament level pool player, and an admired and respected chess player.  Having had Mike as a friend was to be blessed with much richness on this earth.

Thanks Jim. Uncle Mike was my favorite.  Right before he died I asked him when his best times in life were. He said he loved growing up in BC, having children, and also his time as a medic. He said he regretted chasing more money so much of his life and losing track of old friends. I've remembered that and tried to live my life accordingly.                         Shannon Erdell

Great advise about life from Mike about priorities when he knew his was about to end.   He was always a hard worker at whatever he was doing.   Quick to smile.   Really tough in some circumstances, but really caring in others.   Good memories.  God Bless his friends and family who likely still miss him.
