While very few of us like our school pictures, this picture of Bob is absolutely how I think of him - the great smile, how much he liked to tease his classmates, and what a great guy he was!
My condolences to Bob/s family and friends at their loss.
Lots of memories of when we were little guys hanging out at his house on 8th Street, fixing our motorscooters and talking about trying to figure out life. We had a rather interesting trip once when we were not much older, towing his '51 chevy, the one with the super tuned exhaust headers, back from Bakersfield by lashing it behind another car with a long chain strung through a couple of old tires for cushioning. Bob was very resourceful and self reliant. And a good friend. You knew he had your back.
When I was attending UNR, I was out on the 4th floor balcony when I saw this guy looking lost looking out his window in the dorm across from mine. How looked so lost, then I looked closer and it was Bob. I called to him and we both ran downstairs to meet in the quad. It was like finding a long lost friend. We remained close until the end of the year. I then went elsewhere to college. I never saw him again. I am so sorry we weren't able to meet up again. The world is a sadder place without his smiling face and sense of humor. He is, and will continue to be missed.
Words can't express the sorrow I felt when hearing about Bob's passing. My heart goes out to his family.
I remember so many good times with Bob, cruising The Big in his blue Chevy with the tuck and roll upholstery and one of the first cars to have a 45 rpm record player installed under the dash. Every time we hit a dip in the road, the record would skip.
I loved cheering for him during football games and basketball games. He was a good athlete, a friend to all and truly someone you enjoyed being with. He will be fondly remembered.
It's been over 50 yrs since I last saw Bob; but Steve's message triggered an instant image of Mr. Personality. Hea, he had it, one of the greatest! I hope you had a good life. Regret that time never allows a chance to reach back long enough to personally add “Bob..it was truly a pleasure!"
Good bye to a truly nice guy. Many great memories. Overnight trips on the football team, nights studying for American Government tests in my basement bedroom on Ave. F with Bob and Brent Fox, the blue 51 Chevy I bought from him and many more.
