MICHAEL BALMER Michael H. Balmer, 66, of Las Vegas, passed away peacefully Feb. 9, 2010. He was born March 22, 1943, in Wichita, Kan., but considered himself a native since he resided in Boulder City, and Las Vegas since 1955. He graduated Boulder City High School, in 1962, and then served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Upon return, he joined the North Las Vegas Police Department and enjoyed a long, satisfying career in law enforcement, retiring in 1991 as a sergeant. During his retirement, Michael became an avid computer gamester, known as "Digger" to his beloved circle of gamers. Michael was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen; mother, Kathryn; and grandson, Kyle Mayberry. He is survived by his father, Eugene; significant other, Cheryl Stevens; daughters, Caroline (Randy) Mayberry and Kristi (Joe) Cipollini; stepson, Michael Vizcarra; grandchildren, Alec and Mason Cipollini and Anna Vizcarra; brother, Larry (Ann); and a number of treasured uncles, cousins, nieces and valued friends. Viewing will be noon-1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, with services, including police and military honor guard following, all at Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Burial will be private at later date in the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, in Boulder City.
