GARY LEONARD Gary Franklin Leonard, 76, passed away May 24, 2021, after a six-month battle with cancer. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Gale and Gilma; daughter, Kristie Gale and companion Betty. He is survived by his sister, Lail; granddaughter, Danielle (Ivan); great-grandson, Ethan; step-daughters, Renee and Gina, and step grandson Chris. Born in Flagstaff, AZ, Gary moved to Boulder City at the age of 5 and graduated from Boulder City High School in 1963. After graduation he became a journeyman carpenter with the National Brotherhood of Carpenters. He was in the midst of all the large hotels being built and continued until he decided to pursue his other dream career, which was working as a fireman. Gary joined the Clark County Fire Department in 1967. He worked at various stations for 28 years as a career firefighter rising to the rank of Captain. His last station was at McCarran Airport, after completing the Aviation Firefighters course. At the National Fire Academy, he became versed in The Chemistry of Hazardous Matters, On Scene Radiological Emergency Response and other Hazmat courses. Gary truly loved serving the community working as a fireman. In his off-duty days, he had the opportunity to fulfil his other passion which was any project which dealt with wood or building. He built four custom homes (two for re-sale and two to reside in.) On July 10, 2021 at 1:00 the traditional ceremony of the Ringing of the Bell and Flag Presentation will be followed by a Celebration of Life get-together at the Firefighters Local 1098 Union Hall, 6200 W Charleston Blvd. Las Vegas, NV 89145. Memories may be shared at that time if so desired. Memorial donation may be made to the Firefighters of So. Nevada Burn Foundation, Fallen Heroes or a charity of your choice.
