Offered by Dale Eggen (1961) - Lifelong Friend Passed

Kurt Carlsen of the BCHS class of 1963 passed in Nanaimo, British Columbia on 10 June 2016. Kurt was a very close life long friend from BCHS days and we shared most and supported each other in most of the ups and downs of life. Edie and I will both miss him greatly. His passing was a shock as we literally were in very fequent contact. He had joined us in Anacortes, WA for the tulip festival this past April (2016). Our last vision of him was waving goodbye as he boarded the ferry at Anacortes to go back to Vancouver Island to return home. Kurt was originally from Odensee, Denmark. Norway was so often at war with Sweden and Denmark. Kurt was obviously Danish, Edie is Swedish, and I am Norwegian. What a wonderful, interesting mix this all was. At least we were all Scandinavians; you would have to be one to understand. What a large void Kurt's passing is; such an integral part of our lives. The best way to characterize Kurt is when I think of Jack London, I think of Kurt. What a wonderful friend.

Kurt was a very good high school friend. We played a lot of tennis during those years. Kurt was friendly, smart and a hard worker, both at school and in the real world at the clothing store and Shell station.

Greatly appreciated Dale Eggen, (another tennis buddy) letting us know about Kurt's interesting and adventurous life after BCHS.
