I know Mrs. Tracht was not formally one of our teachers but, many of us learned a lot from her , especially in Sunday School. She has such a rich history in Nevada that this article just has to be available to all of us. Jim Widner
VIOLET TRACHT Violet L. Tracht, 101- year-old native Nevadan, passed away Nov. 3, 2011. She was born in Searchlight, May 12, 1910, grew up in Las Vegas with two sisters, Ruth and Nelda and was raised by her widowed father, Rimmer Oppedyk, who ran a dairy. She was the 1928 Las Vegas High School senior class president. Her last public appearance was this past September at her 78th LVHS reunion. In 1929, after attaining her teaching certificate at UNR, she taught in Sandy Valley in a one-room school house. Later she married Dewitt Tracht and they moved to Boulder City, where they owned the Central Market and were married for 49 years. Violet immersed herself in the community, volunteering for PEO, Eastern Star and Grace Community Church Women's groups, as well as chairing it's annual Country Store and preparing her famous apple pies and rolls. Violet loved Nevada, exploring the desert, the mountains, travel, bridge, her church, family and all her numerous friends. She is survived by her two sons, Lawrence (Eleanor) Tracht of Arizona, and Dr. Kenneth (Joan) Tracht of Las Vegas; five grandsons, Kenneth of Washington, Neil (Linda) of Arizona, Kenneth B. (Alisa) of Las Vegas, Richard (Kelly) of Florida, and Robert of Reno; two great-grandchildren, fourth generation Nevadans, Colette and August Tracht; and many nieces and nephews. We say a fond farewell to Violet, our beloved and revered matriarch, who will be missed and forever remembered with love in the heart of all her family and friends. Viewing will be 10-11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 7, with a celebration of her life following, both at Grace Community Church, 1150 Wyoming St., Boulder City. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory can be made to Grace Community Church, or PEO, Chapter K, Boulder City.
