Richard (Dick) Ferris Belding, 74, of Boulder City, Nevada, passed away on February 19, 2023, after a battle with cancer. He was chosen by Donald Frank Belding and Ruth Theresa "Ruthie" Doolittle Belding to be their son. Dick joined his mother and father, along with his brother David who also had been chosen three years earlier.
Dick grew up in Boulder City in a house near his loving grandparents, Ferris M (Pops) Doolittle and Alice Doolittle.
Dick attended Boulder City High, where he was active in sports, lettering in Football and Basketball. Dick graduated from Boulder City High School in 1967.
Immediately after graduation Dick enrolled in Phoenix Junior College. Dick found he was uninterested in college and joined the United States Coast Guard in late 1967. Dick served on PBRs (Patrol Boat, Riverine) and 82-footers (Point-class cutter) and was initially stationed in Alameda, Ca. Later Dick was transferred to New Orleans, LA, and finished his tour of duty there in 1971.
Upon finishing his tour of duty with the United States Coast Guard, Dick returned to Boulder City and worked for the City Parks and Recreation Department.
Dick went on to work at Hoover Dam as a Reclamation Guide until he retired in 1996. During his tenure at Hoover Dam, Dick guided thousands of tourists and dignitaries through the dam's interior, even taking them some 700 feet deep into the dam.
Upon retirement, Dick moved to Costa Rica, where he met and married the love of his life, Lesly (Kati) Rostran. While in Costa Rica, Dick became an avid off-shore fisherman. He immediately became friends with the captains, mates, and fishermen at the Los Suenos Resort and Marina. These fishermen soon learned that Dick could tell bigger fish stories than any of them. Dick and Kati lived in Costa Rica for thirteen years, returning to Boulder City in 2017.
Dick is survived by his wife, Kati Belding of Boulder City, brother David Belding of Las Vegas, sister-in-law Tatiana Mirandaa of Boulder City, his nephew Bradley Belding (and his wife, In Belding, grandnephew Brinley Belding, and grandniece Bella Belding) of Las Vegas, his niece Bonnie of Canandaigua, NY, and his beloved dogs, Tica and Spike of Boulder City.
Both a Memorial Service at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City and a Celebration of Life at the Boulder City Elks Lodge will be announced at a later date.
Dick loved and cared about animals; therefore, instead of flowers, please consider a donation to the Boulder City Animal Shelter at 810 Yucca Street, Boulder City, NV 89005.
