LARRY WENGERT Larry D. Wengert of Boulder City, passed away July 26, 2014, at the age of 64. He was born Sept. 15, 1949 in Mobile, Ala., to Al Wengert and Louise "Fuzzy" Wengert. Larry is survived by his wife, Dawn; his father, Albert Wengert; his mother, Louise Wengert; his son, Brandon and his wife, Paris Wengert; his daughter, Erin Wengert; two grandchildren, Ronald and Davinia Wengert; two brothers, John and Jeff Wengert; a sister, Betty and her husband, John Smith; and dog, Sophie. At the age of four, Larry moved with his family to Boulder City where he established roots and never left. June 5, 1987, he married the love of his life and best friend, Dawn M. Sullivan. After graduating from Boulder City High School, Larry started up a successful residential electrical company called "Larry's Electric." In a small truck overflowing with tools and supplies, Larry and his sidekicks, Fred or Sam, could be seen traveling from stop to stop, saving the electrical disasters of the day. There was never a job too small to take on, a day too hot to conquer, or a light too high that Larry could not change without a ladder. In the late-1990's, with his business in full bloom, built upon years of under-promising and over-delivering to customers, Larry walked away from it to enjoy life with his wife, kids, and a network of friends that extended far beyond the city in which he lived. In retirement, his personality and presence became larger than life, amplified by his towering 6-foot 7-inch stature. During this time, Larry refocused his determination and ingenuity, the same qualities that had driven his business success, on building relationships and becoming a foundation for everybody who crossed his path. Those who knew him, knew that Larry could not go anywhere without finding a friend eager to talk; he frequently received calls from someone needing his helping hand or one of his massive shoulders to lean on. Over the past decade, he could be seen on many evenings lending an ear to folks at Larry's uptown Car Wash. In his passing, many people have expressed a common theme: "I don't know if I was Larry's best friend, but I do know that he was mine." Through his life, Larry loved and excelled in competition. At various times he played basketball, softball, golfed, hunted, fished, and was an avid outdoorsman. He finally found his calling, though, in sporting clays. Larry's shooting career was marked with countless recognition; most significantly, he earned the title of Master Sporting Clay Shooter, was a member of the U.S. Shooting Team, and won over 75 events. His love for camaraderie and competition was captured during his final hours where he went out at the top. Larry spent the morning with great friends, doing exactly what he loved. He had just won a sporting clay tournament and was waiting for his name to be called recognizing his first place prize when he passed without pain or fear. Larry leaves a legacy of integrity, character, and work ethic that will be felt and carried on for generations. He was a man that was respected by all who knew him and was known for being genuine and transparent. At times polarizing, Larry held himself accountable to incredibly high standards and expected the same from those around him. He lived without regrets, sharing wonderful and fulfilling relationships with his family and friends. His passion for life was captured perfectly by his relationship with his wife. Larry left no doubt that Dawn was his Queen, to be put on a pedestal, and together they shared a one-of-a-kind fairytale relationship. A Celebration of Life will be at 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, at the Boulder Creek Golf Club, 1501 Veterans Memorial Drive, Boulder City, NV 89005.
