James Thorpe

James "Jim" Edward Thorpe, age 62, of Annapolis Junction, Maryland passed away Sunday November 26, 2023. Born in Colorado, his journey through life was marked by a profound love for family, an unwavering faith in God, and a commitment to spreading warmth and acceptance.

Jim was preceded in death by his sister Sherie Mazzei, father Milton Thorpe, stepfather Peter Wiest and grandparents Harvey Simms, May Simms, Orvis Thorpe, Mary Thorpe. He is survived by his devoted wife Cynthia Thorpe, his mother Judith Wiest, children Jennifer, Matthew, Catherine, Elizabeth, and Mary, stepchildren Benjamin and Thomas, and 12 cherished grandchildren. Jim, a man of immense kindness and unfailing friendliness, will be remembered for his unparalleled acceptance of others. May his spirit live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know him.

In his professional pursuits, Jim exemplified dedication and diligence, leaving a lasting impact on those who had the privilege of working alongside him. His colleagues remember him not only for his skills but for the genuine care he showed towards everyone, fostering a sense of camaraderie in the workplace.

Family meant everything to Jim, and his role as a loving husband, father, and stepfather was central to his identity. Cynthia, his beloved wife, was not only his partner in life but also a source of strength and inspiration. Together, they created a home filled with love, laughter, and the joy of shared moments. As a father, Jim was a guiding light, imparting valuable lessons of kindness, resilience, and the importance of embracing one another.

Jim's adoration extended to his grandchildren, a dozen in number, each a source of pride and delight. His eyes would light up at family gatherings, especially during the festive season that held a special place in his heart – Thanksgiving and Christmas. His love for the holidays was infectious, creating enduring memories of warmth and togetherness.

In the community, Jim was known as more than a neighbor; he was a friend to all. His open-mindedness and genuine interest in others made him a pillar of support for those who needed it most. Whether through a friendly conversation or a helping hand, Jim made a positive impact on the lives of those around him.

A memorial will be held in his honor on December 9, 10am at Bethel Assembly of God in Savage, MD. As we say our goodbyes, let us remember Jim not only for the sorrow of his departure but for the countless moments of joy, acceptance, and love he shared with us. His legacy lives on in the hearts he touched, and his spirit will continue to inspire us to be kinder, friendlier, and more accepting in our own lives.
