Willis Little Hilton

Willis Little Hilton was born Feb. 2, 1867, the youngest child of William Bainbridge and Rhoda Little Hilton.  He married Almeda Gross and they had one son, Howard J.  They were divorced.  Willis left home June 19, 1896, and went west where he was a street car conductor.  He returned home in 1900; on the way he met Linda Smith of Foxboro, Mass.  They were married in 1901 and lived with his parents William and Rhoda on the family farm in Bremen.  They had three children:  Florence, b. 1902; Carl, b. 1904; and Hazel, born 1909.  Willis was a farmer, a storekeeper, and Bremen Town Clerk from 1913 - 1955.  During that time, he also served on the Bremen Board of Selectmen.  He and Linda ran a general store next to their home; for many years it was also the Broad Cove Post Office and Linda was the Postmistress.  The store burned down in 1941 and Willis moved the store into the kitchen of their home.  Linda died in 1944.  Willis lived with his son Carl and family until his death in 1962.
