Wendy Colebank ((Ball))

Wendy Jane Colebank of Bremerton Sept. 11, 1952 to Aug. 17, 2016 Wendy went to be with our Lord, Aug. 17, 2016, at the age of 63. Wendy was born to Warren L. and Joyce (Furseth) Colebank in Slayton, Minnesota on Sept. 21, 1952. Wendy lived in Minnesota and Arizona before her family moved to Bremerton in 1957. She attended Westpark School, Coontz Junior High School and West Bremerton High School graduating in 1971. Wendy had a beautiful voice and she sang in the Choralettes in high school. As a teenager, she was baptized in the Bremerton Church of Christ, better known back then as the “log cabin church.” After high school she worked at the Dairy Queen and the Navy Commissary. Later she worked at Imperial Manufacturing Company making wet suits, and took business courses at Olympic College until she obtained a job as a clerk typist at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard where she worked until July of 1988. Wendy married John Ball in 1988 and in June of 1989 had a son, John Wesley Ball. They were subsequently separated and divorced. John was raised by Wendy’s sister Lynda and husband Ken Corey in Port Angeles. Wendy struggled with severe emotional problems for much of her life and had been in the care of Kitsap Mental Health for many years. She is survived by her son, John W. Ball of Port Angeles; her mother, Joyce Colebank Simpson of Bremerton; brothers, James (Paulette) Colebank of Port Orchard, Bruce (Linda) Colebank of Shelton; and sister, Lynda Corey (Ken) of Port Angeles, as well as many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Wendy’s therapist Rebecca Williams at Kitsap Mental Health, Tom and Mary at View Crest Village in East Bremerton, as well as Deputy’s Mary Carlo and Aaron Davis at the Coroner’s Office for their kindness. Memorials can be made to Kitsap Mental Health. A private graveside service for the family will be held at a later date.

I never had any classes with Wendy and never met her, until the week we had Graduation Practice. Because of her last name she sat next to me, and I remember on the 1st day of Practice she introduced herself to me. Then we talked like we knew each other for years, which l thought was cool. She seemed like a really nice and friendly girl. I remember on the actual Graduation Night (June 10) that she said to me: We MADE IT. Can you believe it? It's really happening. Anyway, just wanted to share that and say: Rest In Peace Wendy. I'm glad that I did get a chance to meet you and know you for at least a week.

Sincerely,

Bob Conklin

Wendy was a friend in high school.  I would pick her up in my 55 Chevy and off to school we'd go.  I remember her as a kind person and fun to be with.  So very sad.
