Philip Harvey Runyon    

RUNYON - Philip Harvey, 60, of Ft. Gibson, died Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at St. John Hospital in Tulsa. He was born June 4, 1948, to Harvey and Wanda (Pratt) Runyon in Broken Arrow, OK where he grew up. Philip graduated from Broken Arrow High School in 1966. He continued his education at Northeastern State University and was accepted in nursing school. He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam as a medic. After his honorable discharge from the Army he attended Anesthetist School in Wichita, KS.

In 1978 he took a position at Springhill, LA. Hospital and worked there for a couple of years. He served at hospitals in Austin, TX. and Leadville, CO before coming to Muskogee in 1981. He was a certified RN Anesthetist at Muskogee Regional Medical Center from 1981 to 2006. During his tenure at Muskogee Regional Medical Center he also worked at Three Rivers Surgery Center. After his retirement from Muskogee Regional Medical Center he served on a contract basis at Jack Montgomery Veterans Administration Medical Center, Shawnee Medical Center, Ft. Smith Sparks Hospital, Guyman Medical Center and Atoka Hospital.

Philip had a love for life. He was a pilot and enjoyed Harley riding, fishing, woodworking, scuba diving, bird hunting, cooking, and air shows.

Philip was preceded in death by: his parents. He is survived by: his daughter, Brienne Dawn Runyon of Lawrence, KS; fiancee, Helen Bumgarner of Muskogee; sister, Hope Ann Runyon of Broken Arrow; Paula Barnum and her husband, Mike, of Tulsa and many friends.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Monday at St. Paul United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Ft. Gibson National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jay Gregory, M.D., Fred Ruefer, M.D., Ron McGill, Rex Waggoner, Ralph Moore and Chuck Parker. Honorary pallbearers are Larry Hamilton, D.V.M., Dean Williams, Don Elgin, M.D., David Jones, Fred Hogle, Jerry Keifer, Mike Soper, M.D., Jean Nicholson, Benny Nicholson and Mike Barnum.
