Ronald Ray Buchanan was born on February 1, 1948, in Yakima, Washington, to Everett and Donna Naydene (Shewmaker) Buchanan. Surrounded by his loving family, he peacefully passed from this life on February 12, 2025, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, at the age of 77.
Throughout his life, Ronald called many places home, including Washington State and Missouri, before settling in Oklahoma. He lived in Broken Arrow, Coweta, and Wagoner before making Porter his home in 2019. A dedicated and hardworking man, Ronald spent over 30 years as an employee at the Ford Glass Plant in Broken Arrow.
On July 2, 1987, at Keystone Lake in Creek County, Oklahoma, Ronald married the love of his life, Virginia Lee Ward. Together, they built a life filled with adventure and shared passions. As a person that loved the outdoors, Ronald enjoyed fishing, four-wheeling, and shooting cans from the pond bank. He was a devoted NASCAR fan, cheering for Dale Earnhardt and Dale Earnhardt Jr.—but definitely not Jimmie Johnson. After retiring, he and Virginia traveled all across the United States, hot-shotting oil field equipment and making memories from coast to coast.
Ronald will always be remembered for his sharp wit, infectious laughter, and boundless wisdom. He never met a stranger and was always ready with a great story or joke—though his humor didn’t officially kick in until he had his signature cup of "nuclear hot" coffee. More than anything, he cherished his family and friends, holding them close to his heart. Ronald's humor, warmth, and love will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be deeply missed.
Ronald is survived by: his beloved wife, Virginia; his children: Robert R. Adams and wife Mindy of Jay, Oklahoma, Roni Renee Boulanger of Blackwell, Oklahoma, Cathy Kelley and husband Alan of Excelsior Springs, Missouri, Brandy Henderson of Porter, Oklahoma, and Daddy’s Favorite, LaDonna Voyles of Coweta, Oklahoma; 12 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 1 brother: Clifford Buchanan and wife Gwenna of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; 3 sisters: Lorraine Lakey and husband Larry of Ava, Missouri, Donna Sue Sherman and husband Steve of Ava, Missouri, and Debbie Buchanan of Ozark, Missouri; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends. Ronald was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers: Jim Buchanan and Jerry.
No formal services will be held. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Locust Grove.
