BROKEN ARROW - Jack E. Edwards, a prominent Broken Arrow bank president, civic leader and lifelong community resident, died Monday. He was 63.

A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday at the Assembly at Broken Arrow under the direction of Hayhurst Funeral Home.

Edwards, a Broken Arrow native, was president of Citizens Security Bank, a post he had held since 2003.

He previously was president of Arkansas Valley State Bank, where he worked for 24 years.

Mayor Mike Lester, a good friend of Edwards' since childhood, said Edwards was "like a brother to me" and called his death a great loss not only to him personally but to the community.

He said Edwards, who was treasurer for Lester's most recent City Council campaign, was an excellent adviser, whether in business, politics or personal affairs.

"And I generally followed Jack's advice," Lester said. "Many times when I've had a difficult decision on some vote with the council, I'd bounce it off of Jack.

"He was able to cut through to the heart of the matter, past the politics and everything else. I relied on him heavily."

A 1966 Broken Arrow High School graduate and Army veteran who attended Oklahoma State University, Edwards joined Citizens Security Bank in 2003.

Scott Mabrey, Citizens Security's Tulsa Metro Region president, said Citizens hired Edwards in preparation for opening its first Broken Arrow bank, which Edwards' leadership and experience helped make a success.

"Jack was a wonderful person and an excellent banker," Mabrey said. "He was respected and loved by everybody at Citizens. Everybody loved Jack, and that's no exaggeration."

Edwards' community involvements were many. He was a devoted member and Paul Harris Fellow with Broken Arrow Rotary Club, and he was president of the Broken Arrow Public Schools Foundation.

He served on many boards, including the Broken Arrow Development Authority and the Broken Arrow Chamber of Commerce.

In his spare time, Edwards loved going to automobile auctions and was a member of the Corvette Club, family members said.

His survivors include his wife of 34 years, Linda Edwards; three daughters, Tara Hybarger, Stephanie Tygart and Amy Edwards; four sisters, Ina Dilldine, Sue Carter, Carol Luster and Edith Clayton; a brother, Jim Edwards; and three grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made to the Broken Arrow Rotary Club, P.O. Box 893, Broken Arrow, OK 74013, or to the Lance Barlow Memorial Scholarship Fund, 8506 E. 61st St., Tulsa, OK 74133.
