Mary was one of the most witty people in our class; she was also the most misunderstood. Her type of genius mind was hidden until we got to High School. In Jr. High she loved the Beatles and had collected baseball style cards of her heros. Those hundreds of cards were with her everyday.
Mary was excellent at everything she took a slight interest in. She won the contest Braden/Wench ran for selecting a new Logo. I believe she got a cash prize of $100, a lot of money for a kid in the 60's. For the most part she disliked school but came for the Art classes and Mrs Burris history classes. She once told me if she could have Mrs Burris for every class that would be Heaven on Earth.
There were several of her old class mates at her graveside service. It was David Bell who called to tell me she had passed. He said that he really admired her courage to be different. So did I.

One thing you could always count on was that Mary was always real.  No pretense, nothing phoney .

She was beautiful but didn't know it. Glad to count her as one of my friends.
