Stephanie Jan Barnes was born December 25, 1952 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma the daughter of Leo Francis and Patricia (Haney) Burghart. Stephanie died Monday, February 15, 2010 at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was 57 years of age.
The former Miss Stephanie Burghart was a 1971 graduate of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma High School. She moved to Broken Arrow in 1964 from Downey, California. She attended Tulsa Junior College and the University of Tulsa, where she received her Nursing Degree. She was married to Curtis James King on December 22, 1973 in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, who preceded her in death on January 1, 1976. She married Harold Eugene Barnes on August 21, 1981. She was a Registered Nurse at St. Francis Hospital and Tulsa Regional Medical Center, having worked in the Surgery, ICU and CCU units. She had also worked for Agencies in Emergency situations. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, singing and playing the guitar.

Jan - or Burgy-Lynn as I called her in 8th grade - was a wonderful friend. We had many fun times together, especially in 8th grade while at Sequoyah Middle School. I remember when she got her first contact lenses and in the middle of class she would shout out, "I lost my eye, I lost my eye!" and I would be the one to walk her to the bathroom so we could find her "eye"! She was so funny. I also remember riding her horse with her all the way from where she lived (close to 131st and Elm) to my house (past 91st and Elm). Of course, that was when 91st was a 2-lane, much less busy, street with hardly any homes between us. I am so sorry that she is gone before I had one last chance to talk with her. Jan was a great person.
