Jason Eric Wortham was born February 25, 1971 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to his parents Mary Monroe of Tulsa and Roger Wortham of Broken Arrow. He passed from this life on August 17, 2008 at the age of 37 in a fishing accident. Upon graduating from Broken Arrow High School Jason obtained his BS degree from Oklahoma State University. Furthering his education and achievements he obtained his pilot’s license and his aircraft mechanic’s license. Among Jason’s enjoyments in life was his love for animals, fishing, always helping others, his 1974 Javelin AMX and his 1972 Jeep Commando. Having lived in Conroe, Texas and McAlester, Oklahoma Jason made his home in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

A memorial service was held at the Ninde Woodland Chapel on August 20, 2008 and his ashes were scattered over his favorite fishing hole.

I've exchanged email's with Jason's Mom (monroejo@swbell.net) she described the accident as this:

"He was seining (throwing a net) for bait fish below the dam's raging waters, and the net, tied to his wrist, got caught on a rock (I think a big fish got in his net and drug him out into the deep VERY swift water), and held him under"

From the Tulsa World:

The Grand River Dam Authority Lake Patrol says the body of a 37-year old Jason Wortham was recovered Sunday evening. According to the Lake Patrol, Jason Wortham was wading in the water, near a safety cable below the dam when, according to witnesses, he went under and did not resurface.
