That cartoon is hilarious. Poor Mrs. Barnes! I never had her as a teacher (I had the formidable Mrs. Orshansky) but she seemed very sweet. Hopefully once she overcame the shock of seeing Paul jump out the window she was able to have a sense of humor about the whole thing...
Speaking of Paul's math class defenestration, this is from High-Fi Comix (October 1973) by Paul McGeehee, with additional artwork by Giles. Somehow I've kept it all these years!
Paul was the only classmate I kept in touch with after H.S.. A gentle, gifted soul, he made us laugh at ourselves. Someday I'll come across the postcards he sent during his travels and share them here.
Paul was so talented & creative. Definitely gone way too soon. We went to the Chapel School together through 6th grade before attending Jr & Sr High at BHS.
The Chapel School Bronxville. Not sure of the year, maybe 3rd grade? Top row second from left is Paul, then Karen Skinner & Lynn Aston. Middle row - Carolyn Ferretti, Winnie Oswald, Lisa Adolph, Craig Tovell & me. Bottom row - David Herrick, Kurt Simonides (?), Vicki Bohl & EricThe Chapel School, Bronxville. Not sure of the year. Paul was a dear soul from which creativity, kindness and goodwill spilled forth. I remember him and I working on my Penguin costume for Halloween 1978. It was a paper mache Penguin head which I wore with a Bargain Box tuxedo. Or his work helping Tom and I decorate the Boy Scout Cabin for the famous (and yet to be topped) Halloween party of 1981. I still have all his planet postcards and a souvenier T-shirt for Earth.
Paul and I reconnected in 1989. He reappeared in the NYC area and over about a month we had a couple of drinks and dinners together. During this time he did not share any information about his battle with Melanoma cancer. That was the last time I saw or heard from him until the sad news of his passing.
Anyway, Paul told me the story about his appearance on Letterman's Stupid Pet Tricks. Paul's dog Woffie had the uncanny ability to tell the difference between a McDonalds and Burger King hamburger. Paul would put the two wrapped hamburgers down on the floor and ask Woffie "Woffie, find the McDonalds hamburger". Which Woofie was able to do. That talent landed both of them a spot on Letterman show. However, when it was showtime one of the Letterman crew members reheated the two burgers in a microwave, which according to Paul, altered the original aroma. This change threw off Woffie's scent and the dog was unable to find the McDonald's hamburger. The appearance was a flop. There is a picture somewhere of Paul, Woffie and Letterman on stage.

Hilary,
I always thought that was Giles who jumped out the window, but that was EPIC!
