After serving in Vietnam, I sought and obtained entry to UW Medical School. I started training as a Pediatrician (like my Biology lab partner, Joel Giese) but switched to Emergency Medicine where I spent almost 40 years in practice.
I tried to retire but failed twice.
The last 5 years I worked as Hospital Surveyor for The Joint Commission inspecting hospitals all over the United States.
I finally retired on January 1st, 2023 for my third and last time.
I spend my time mountain biking and skiing near our current home in Salt Lake City. In May 2023, I returned from my third Medical Mission trip to Uganda. I am going on a medical mission trip to Ukraine, October14-25. We have sold out home in Michigan on a beautiful lake near Ann Arbor. We have decided to retire here in Salt Lake City. My wife Nancy plans to retiree in 2026 from the University of Utah. We love to travel and will do so til I'm too old to do it, lol.

Hi Ray: Great to see your plans and review your career. Impressive for sure.
I am very interested in your plans to retire/move back to Vietnam this year. My wife Nancy and I did a Backroads bike trip in Vietnam and Cambodia in 2018 and was surprised at the warm reception we and our group received in both countries. I can understand the attraction to the area and the people.

It was so nice to see you at the reunion.
If ever in the Ann Arbor area (I-94) let me know I live on a beautiful lake nearby.

Good to hear about you. I remember you as a unique individual and you seems to have beena ble to carve out a unique career and enjoyable life with a sage philosophy and perspective.
