School Story:

After HS I went to and graduated from Harpur College (SUNY Binghamton) seems like a million years ago but it was 1972.

Then, I worked for VISTA in Iowa going on to the University of Iowa where I earned an MA in Urban and Regional Planning. Worked as a planner in Des Moines and Iowa City, IA.

Returned to school, U Mass (Amherst MA) for an MA and Ph.D. in Economics. Was a professor at Millersville University in PA until I went to work for ACTWU (Clothing and Textile union) as a researcher in NYC.

Next, I moved on to the Bureau of Labor Statistics where I was head of the Information and Advisory Branch. We wrote the Unemployment and CPI (inflation) press releases for the NY region. Also answered press questions and public r4esearch questions. Next, it was the IRS. Did economic pricing and valuation studies on major multi-national corporations. Goal was to get appropriate taxes paid in US.

Last stop was the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission where I studied employment patterns in an effort to induce companies to adjust hiring, promotion, and pay disparities based on race, gender, ethnicity, age or disability.

Now, I'm fighting the good fight spending more time on my leisure pastimes in local politics and economic justice advocacy. And I've taken up some craft projects.

I remember like it was yesterday, or maybe it was yesterday, sitting on Ellen’s porch on East 46 Street watching kids playing in the street, neighbors passing by. Maybe Robin was there, or Rhonda, Lucille, Sandy, Ann, Marsha; it could have been Junior High or was it High School? We were just hanging out, or perhaps we were having one of those deep philosophic discussions. At some point, Ellen was probably trying to explain one of those untranslatable Yiddish expressions of hers.

I cannot remember when I met her. She was just there through most of my school years. We lost touch as is common when life gets busy and weeks pass, then months and years. I’m glad that her life was good. She always wanted to get married and raise children. And she was happy doing it. It is difficult to think of her as dead and gone because she lives in my memory.
