Clay passed away on February 11, 2008, at the age of 56 from a heart attack.  He is survived by his wife, Cynthia, and three sons - Clint, Gage and Cliff.

Clay served as Fire Chief for many years.  He was good at helping strangers in any condition.  Many times, he would help stranded travelers.  He followed in his father's footsteps as a successful father and farmer.
