I Miss you Gene.

Gene was truly one of my best friends in high school.  We rode bikes and cycles together, swam all summer, went to church together, got in trouble together, and even painted my house together one summer.  I even got into a fight one day defending him at the KFC.  You know what they say, “dynamite comes in small packages”.  Gene was always full of piss and vinegar. He was a good and loyal friend and I will remember him always.

After graduation from BHS, we kind of drifted apart. I did see Gene several times during the 80’s when I would go back to
Brownfield, but then lost touch with him when my parents moved away and I quit going home.

I was quite disturbed and saddened when I heard he had passed away. It still bothers me today, as I wish I could have been there in some way for him. But I do take some comfort in knowing that Gene was a Christian. I was there when he accepted Christ as his savior one Sunday morning at First Baptist Church in Brownfield, when we were kids.

Thanks Gene for the good times and for being my friend.
