In Memory

Bill House

WILLIAM “BILL” MORRIS HOUSE: November 30, 1944—June 19 2025

William Morris “Bill” House, Jr., 80, of Palestine TX passed away peacefully on June 19, 2025. Born in Hughes Springs TX, he was the son of The Rev. Dr. William M. House and Mary Esther Gunn House.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his brother, Don House and wife Paula of College Station; his son, William M. House III of Bullard; and his daughter, Ashley R. Gregory and husband Andrew of Palestine. He also leaves behind five cherished grandchildren: Harrison House, Blythe House, Savannah Gregory, Andrew Gregory, Jr., and Jules Gregory—along with his faithful companion, Maggie.

Bill graduated from Southwestern University in 1967 with a degree in economics, then went on to law school at The University of Texas at Austin. He began practicing law in Bryan TX before settling in Palestine, where he served his community as a criminal defense attorney for over 50 years. Respected for his tireless work ethic and encyclopedic knowledge of legal precedent, Bill approached his profession with unwavering commitment—missing only a handful of days over the course of his career.

He was a longtime and faithful member of First Methodist Church in Palestine, rarely missing a Sunday and finding quiet strength in his faith.

Bill was a man of few words, deep integrity, and quiet humor. He shared a lifelong bond of practical jokes and dry wit with his brother Don. He was an avid reader, builder, cook, and family photographer. A runner in his younger years and a lifelong outdoorsman, Bill spent countless hours bird and squirrel watching and enjoyed hunting as a way of life. He was also a fierce advocate for animals and shared a special bond with his beloved schnauzer, Maggie.

Above all, Bill was devoted to his family. He adored his grandchildren and never missed an opportunity to spend time with them. His patience, humility, and love will be remembered and missed fiercely.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. on Friday June 27, 2025, in Lamely Hall at First Methodist Church of Palestine. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 A.M. at First Methodist Church of Palestine with The Rev. Jerry House officiating. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 P.M at Evans Chapel Cemetery in Normangee TX.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Methodist Church of Palestine, Texas, or to the animal charity of your choice.

How sad.  I remember Bill well.  Tall.  Quiet sense of humor.  Almost shy.  I wasn't close to Bill but his death, for some reason, hits hard.  Like David Hart's.  RIP Bill House.
