Kathy Meer (Tolien)

I'd like to wish all my former classmates a Meery (lol)Christmas/Happy Holiday season and a Happy New Year too!

And on a more solemn note, here is an obituary for someone we may all remember...a part of our everyday lives when we were young...

Oct. 10, 1925 – Dec. 2, 2021

Vivian F. Greene, longtime assistant principal at Kenmore West High School, died Dec. 2 in Elderwood Village at Bassett Park, Amherst. She was 96.

Born in Silver Creek, she was a graduate of Kenmore High School, which later became Kenmore West. She earned a bachelor’s degree from the University at Buffalo in 1948 and began teaching business classes at Kenmore High that September.

She went on to receive a master’s degree in education from UB, along with certification as a principal. She was a guidance counselor at Kenmore High, then became assistant principal in 1956. She retired in 1987.

Ms. Greene was active in the Kenmore West Alumni Association and helped organize her 50th class reunion.

She was a past president of the Twentieth Century Club and founding member of its foundation. She also was an officer of Chapter BV of P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization) International, which provides scholarships and grants for women. She was a dedicated Darwin Martin House volunteer and longtime recording secretary of the Kenmore Antique Study Group.

An avid Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres fan, she held season tickets for both teams for many years. She also was a season ticket holder at Shea’s Performing Arts Center.

Ms. Greene was a world traveler and visited numerous countries on five continents. A dog lover, she adopted three Gordon Setters over the years. She enjoyed exploring genealogy and family history.

Survivors include a niece and several cousins.

A graveside service was held Dec. 10 in Evergreen Lawn Cemetery, Town of Hanover.

My Best to Everyone,

Kathy Meer Tolien

Greetings class,

I am visiting Kenmore hopeful of seeing a clear view of the solar eclipse.  I am wondering if there is any news about a gathering of our class to celebrate 60 years since we all graduated from K-West.  Can anyone help me out here?

A heart felt sense of loss from all of us to you who have died.  The death of one diminishes the many.  Condolences to their families and friends.  And a message to the class of "64;  STOP DYING, PLEASE

On this day in 1969, Judy Kibby married Don Markle.

They lived happily together these 45 years-NOT

Judy remarried- a very nice man.

Don remarried- a very nice woman.  She died.

It is better to be alive (I think).

So, Class of 64, exercise, eat your veggies, and do not die yet.

Don---You are so right-----Every Day is a gift---It is great to be alive--Learn something new every day--Teach some of our values we grew up with to some one else --- Praise people---don't be critical-- smile--someone out there might need your smile to get through their day-------The class of 1964 was very unique-- we all got along so well and cared about each other even if only to say a cheerful hi and a big smile!  Let's make this coming picnic in August the best yet!!--  As you said Don  --  It's great to be alive..............

Pat,

Thanks for the message.  I am looking at the response list on a regular basis.  I am still undecided about traveling back to Kenmore for this.  So far the responses have been few.  My wife ( a Kenmore East grad) will be traveling back for her class reunion in July.  I chose not to join her and wait until maybe attend ours in August.  Too bad we couldn't have planned to have reunion celebrations closer together.
