Annie Shaw - Class Of 1939

Miss Annie Catherine Shaw, 92, of Spring Lake passed away Saturday, Feb. 14, 2015, at Greenleaf Care Center in Lillington. She was born Dec. 16, 1922, in Harnett County, the daughter of the late Neil Duncan and Martha McDonald Shaw. Annie was preceded in death by her brother, Norman Shaw.

Miss Shaw lived in the house she was born in until multiple health conditions forced a move to assisted living in October 2011. A 1939 graduate of Anderson Creek High School, she worked as a seamstress at Verne's Cleaners before staying home to look after her brother and mother. Her hobbies were sewing, crocheting and quilting.

The oldest member at Flat Branch Presbyterian Church, she served as kindergarten Sunday school teacher for many years, actively participated in the Presbyterian Women and was one of the first recipients of the Presbyterian Women Honorary Life Membership Award.

Funeral service were held Monday, Feb. 16, 2015, at O'Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Chapel in Lillington with Dr. Mike Armistead, Dr. John Coker and Shirley Bain officiating. A private burial was held in Flat Branch Presbyterian Church cemetery.

Annie is survived by her sister, Martha Shaw Butts of Spring Lake; and niece, Ann Butts of Spring Lake.
