
Edith (Edie) Faircloth Formulak
FAYETTEVILLE — Edith (Edie) Faircloth Formulak (Class of 1942), of Fayetteville, passed away on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center surrounded by her family.
She was born in Fayetteville, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Bernice and Minnie Thornton Faircloth. Edie was preceded in death by her son, Darryl Case; three sisters, Pearl Wood, Clara Trumble, and Winnie Wicker; and three brothers, Sam, Don, and Ralph Faircloth.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Ronald (Gus) Formulak; daughter, Sheena Hohner of Centerville, OH; three granddaughters, Jan Sanders and Wendy Buck of Morehead City, and Lisa Hohner of Springboro, OH; eight grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Throughout her life, Edie cherished her entire family and remained close to them although she lived in various locations until her husband retired from the United States Army.
Upon her return to the Fayetteville/Fort Bragg area, Edie became an active, devoted, and supportive member of Highland Presbyterian Church, the Presbyterian Women, the Emma Lee Howie Sunday School Class and Flingers. During all these years Edie was constantly occupied visiting the homebound, delivering flowers, driving others to doctor appointments, manning the phones, greeting visitors at the reception desk of the church and performing any tasks she was asked to do. Her care and loyalty to her own loved ones and many others residing in local care facilities are well known. For all of these outstanding volunteer duties, the Highland Presbyterian Church Women awarded her the Honorary Life Membership pin and certificate in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) on October 24, 2011. She considered this award as one of the highlights of her life.
Edie was a graduate of Palmer College in Columbia, SC, and at an early age she chose a career with the Department of Defense. During these years she was employed at the Academy of Sciences at Ft. Sam Houston, TX; the Education Center of Fort Jackson, SC, and she completed 39 years of Federal service at the John F. Kenedy Special Warfare School and Center at Fort Bragg, NC.
A funeral service officiated by Dr. Thom Burelson and Dr. Ewart “Doc” Wyle was held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January, 16, 2016, at Highland Presbyterian Church. The family welcomed friends at Sullivan’s Funeral Service from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, January 15, 2016.
Services were entrusted to Sullivan’s Highland Funeral Service & Crematory.
