Mrs. Jean Hinesley Burgess, 85, died Monday, January 4, 2016, in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Funeral services were held Friday, January 8, 2016, at 2:00 PM at Layton Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Swagger officiating. The family received friends prior to the service from 12:30 to 1:30 PM. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Surviving is her husband, Sam Burgess; daughter, Sammie Rhodes and husband, Joe; Lisa Upchurch, who was like a daughter and her family, husband, Kenny and their dauhters, Kasie Autry and husband Justin, and Kayla Upchurch and their granddaughter, Elizabeth Autry, who brought a blessing to Jean's life; and numerous nieces and nephews.
