Mr. Jacob “Jake” E. Matthews, Jr., 66, of Spring Lake passed away Thursday, August 27, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Wilmington, NC, the son of the late Jacob E. Matthews, Sr. and Helen Skipper Matthews. He was a dedicated employee of Eaton Corporation in Fayetteville for over 35 years. Jake was a loving husband, daddy and “Pa”. He loved his tractors, guns and planting a garden. Jake enjoyed over indulging his grandchildren and great-nieces and nephews. Jake expected of others what he expected of himself. 

A memorial service will be 2:00 PM Saturday, August 29, 2015 at O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Chapel in Lillington. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 12:00-2:00 PM. 

Jake is survived by his wife of 40 years, Elizabeth Parker Matthews of the home, daughter, Diana Matthews Hall and husband, Mark of Garner, 2 grandchildren, Matthew Jacob Hall and Marlo Elizabeth Hall, mother, Helen Skipper Matthews of Spring Lake, 2 brothers, Donald Skipper Matthews of Spring Lake, Bob S. Matthews and wife, Karen of Florida, in addition to nieces and nephews.
