anyway, Jesus was a troublemaker in trouble with the authorities and even though I think Christmas as such is a travesty, I do identify with him even though he was born in the Spring, as I was,

Here is from Isaiah 53 about the Messiah: despised and rejected of men (and women)

New King James Version  Par ▾

The Sin-Bearing Messiah

1Who has believed our report?
And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?
2For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant,
And as a root out of dry ground.
He has no [a]form or [b]comeliness;
And when we see Him,
There is no [c]beauty that we should desire Him.
3He is despised and [d]rejected by men,
A Man of [e]sorrows and acquainted with [f]grief.
And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him;
He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.

4Surely He has borne our [g]griefs
And carried our [h]sorrows;
Yet we [i]esteemed Him stricken,
[j]Smitten by God, and afflicted.
5But He was wounded[k] for our transgressions,
He was [l]bruised for our iniquities;
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,
And by His stripes[m] we are healed.
6All we like sheep have gone astray;
We have turned, every one, to his own way;
And the Lord [n]has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.

7He was oppressed and He was afflicted,
Yet He opened not His mouth;
He was led as a lamb to the slaughter,
And as a sheep before its shearers is silent,
So He opened not His mouth.
8He was taken from [o]prison and from judgment,
And who will declare His generation?
For He was cut off from the land of the living;
For the transgressions of My people He was stricken.
9And [p]they made His grave with the wicked—
But with the rich at His death,
Because He had done no violence,
Nor was any deceit in His mouth.

10Yet it pleased the Lord to [q]bruise Him;
He has put Him to grief.
When You make His soul an offering for sin,
He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days,
And the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in His hand.
11[r]He shall see the labor of His soul, and be satisfied.
By His knowledge My righteous Servant shall justify many,
For He shall bear their iniquities.
12Therefore I will divide Him a portion with the great,
And He shall divide the [s]spoil with the strong,
Because He poured out His soul unto death,
And He was numbered with the transgressors,
And He bore the sin of many,
And made intercession for the transgressors.

Gregg, the book of Enoch sounds intriguing I'd like to look it up.. do you have a link? thanks

Diane,

I am not religious in the sense that I don't believe anything. I know or I don't know. I study various old texts out of curiosity. I do think that predecessors established humans as a species on this planet ("We will make them in our image").  If you wish to call this "God", I don't care. However a God who created the Universe is silly.

There are several interpretations of the Book of Enoch. However, you have to be careful about these interpretations. I think you are showing critical faculty. I have absolutely no opinion about Jesus.

I have enjoyed knowing where classmates are living, what they have done since high school, and any photos.  Messaging of past advertisements and photographs that Bill and others have been posting jog the memory of times gone by.  Thank you to those that have shared those memories with us all.

Diane...you have offended many and that's what you wanted to do.  Your postings are inappropriate and unwanted on this website. And posting a picture of a Mother giving birth, which is a sacred,moment, is unconscionable.

I have to wonder how Jesus would feel about the activity in his name at say, Frederick and Nelson dept store etc:

Jesus Clears the Temple Courts

13 When it was almost time for the Jewish Passover, Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 14 In the temple courts he found people selling cattle, sheep and doves, and others sitting at tables exchanging money. 15 So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple courts, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. 16 To those who sold doves he said, “Get these out of here! Stop turning my Father’s house into a market!” 17 His disciples remembered that it is written: “Zeal for your house will consume me.”[a]

18 The Jews then responded to him, “What sign can you show us to prove your authority to do all this?”

19 Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.”

20 They replied, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?” 21 But the temple he had spoken of was his body. 22 After he was raised from the dead, his disciples recalled what he had said. Then they believed the scripture and the words that Jesus had spoken.

I actually prefer the King James version myself:

12And on the morrow, when they were come from Bethany, he was hungry: 13And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find any thing thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet14And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever. And his disciples heard it15And they come to Jerusalem: and Jesus went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves; 16And would not suffer that any man should carry any vessel through the temple. 17And he taught, saying unto them, Is it not written, My house shall be called of all nations the house of prayer? but ye have made it a den of thieves. 18And the scribes and chief priests heard it, and sought how they might destroy him: for they feared him, because all the people was astonished at his doctrine.

Diane,

You mentioned you were going to get and read Anne Serling's book,

As I Knew Him, My Dad, Rod Serling.

Have you read it and if so, can you give us a synopsis?

Rod is one of my mentors. Haven't read the book, yet, but still planning to.

Wow! Another New Year! 2022!  A big number for us Boomers. Still snow and ice here. Had a foot of snow earlier in the week. Quite a  bit for the Pacific Northwest.

Up over the boarder there is even more snow, You'd think they'd be used to it by now.

Attached very short video of the Canadian RCMP doing what they do best!

Try this link:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4baX8NfOEP0

We Boomers are a unique subset of humanity. Born right after the most tumultuous event in human history. I was born February 9th. 46.  If you back-up nine months to the day, is VE DAY.. 'V' as in Victory. 'E' as in Europe.  The day Germany surrendered. Must have been one hell-of-a-party!  I've asked myself, why me? Why then?  Why Burien?

We as a subgroup have a unique perspective on the human experience. We don't have to look back too far to see the worst human beings have to offer.  The flip-side of that coin is that we grew up in what is probably the best that the human race has to offer a large subset of people.  If you've traveled the world, you know what I'm talking about.

Some of the younger generations are critical of the Boomers. Perhaps we have not payed close attention to environmental issues? We've known about climate change since we were in grade school. That clip at the beginning of the movie Planet of the Humans was shot in 1958. You and I no doubt saw the educational movie that clip is from in 9th grade science class.  I know I did.

At 75, about to turn 76, I do a lot of soul-searching.. A lot of reminising about those wonderfully simple days. I'm hoping 2022 is a good year for you all and we can put Covid in our wake...... I'll leave you with this quote:

"We are born at a given moment, in a given place and like vintage years of wine, we have the qualities of the year and of the season in which we are born"                                                                                                                                                          Carl Jung

Happy New Year!!

Tim

Hi Tim,

yes I did get the Rod Serling bio and the 1956 movie Patterns, both from the library... I watched the movie as I like the old bw movies from that era, altho did not totally relate to the Boardroom competition. And I read part of the book but didn't get into it , too many other books right now. But probably there is something about his life I'd like to know more about: the whole concept of the Twilight Zone is very cool I think: to show the presumed underside of reality. Yes, of course it's just a story, but it makes you think, no?

Hi Bill,

Thanks for the laughs. He really has his DuckFace down pat... do you think he thinks he's really a duck?

Also I copied your photo with the masks from 1918 to my Facebook page : I bring it out when people start complaining about the GOVT making us wear them. (Do you have a secret Url to access newspaper photos from years past?)

It's 2022! Sun is out...snow's melting...and in Olympia it's a balmy 39. (Low tonite 33.)

Time to break out the shorts and t-shirts. Spring MUST be near.

Hi Sterling Sloan,

Sorry if the image of Mary giving birth was a bit shocking. I took it off. Guess I'm used to a rougher crowd. I've been doing some writing also, not sci fi, altho I used to read a lot of sci fi.
