Jack Pittis

April 23, 1946  -  February 3, 2006

Jack died of heart complications in February of 2006. His wife Penny was married to him since college. Jack was a prominent resident of Port Angeles.

Pittis graduated from Washington State University in 1969 with a degree in civil engineering. He became a Professional Engineer in 1974, a City Engineer in 1976, and Director of Public Works, City of Port Angeles, Washington in 1980, retiring in 2000. He had been involved in APWA activities for nearly 30 years and went through the chairs of the Washington State Chapter, becoming president in 1990. In 1993 he was named a Top Ten Public Works Leader of the Year. He was truly committed to education and training at all levels of public works.

The City of Port Angeles held a memorial for him in February  of 2006. The turnout was significant. Attending  from the class of 1964 were Bob Nicholson, Leny Sandbeck and Barry Hayes. The city has named a conference room in Jack's memory.
