He retired to Lake Havasu City, Arizona but spent much of his life in Deception Pass, Washington. As an avid boater, John held his US Coast Guard Master Captain's License for over 35 years. He owned and operated Marine Services at Cornet Bay for 38 years and ran Vessel Assist/Tow Boat U.S. for 35 years. John helped thousands of boaters in distress; his favorite opening line arriving on scene was, "Are you the folks who ordered the pizza?" 
He is survived by Patricia "Trish" L Kutzer Aydelotte, his wife of 40 years, one daughter, Jennifer House of Richland; two sons, John A. Aydelotte (Lisa) of Oak Harbor and Jason Aydelotte of Anacortes; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
