From Ric Johnston: Don was a friend in high school and for a while afterwards; I'd met him through my sister Kathy (also in the Class of 1965). A dozen years ago we connected on Facebook (where he posted almost nothing). He was a great guy. After graduating from the University, he went on to work in the television industry, logging 16 years at KING-TV as executive producer and production manager there, moving on to KOMO-TV, for another 13 years, and finally moving to KCTS in 2007. He and his wife Linda retired to Centralia. Most of us who stuck around the Northwest after Highline know television personality Cliff Lenz, who said, "Amid the stress and daily grind of churning out local TV, Don’s heart was always in the right place....he treated his colleagues with respect and sensitivity......and if he had to kick you in the butt— he did it with a smile! We’ll all miss you Don. RIP" That was the Don I knew. Survived by his wife Linda.

Sam Cheyne
I first became acquainted with Don at Puget Sound Jr High. He was a clean cut guy and someone whom was a great friend. I remember going to his house anfd being so impressed with his druming and his drum set. Don was a quiet guy and did not allow conflict to his life.. RIP Don.

Thanks for the memory post Ric. So sad about our Don. I had not heard. We knew he would do well and go far. He was one of our very brightest you know. I'd hoped to reconnect at our 55th and maybe chat about him counseling at Camp Waskowitz and whether he recalled any of his graduation speech or poem (with Dinah Brown). On his way to getting his journalism degree with honors at the UW, he was a Theta Xi frat bro of our Highline classmate Alan Kurseman. They say Don earned Emmy, Gabriel, and Peabody awards. Wow.
