(a personal letter from Dave's mom, Judy Sanders to the class of 1979)
Hello, class of 1979! Does the attached picture look like someone you knew at Kennedy? 
Dave Sanders, perhaps? Actually, the 16-year-old is Sean, Dave’s son, a junior at Entiat High School in central Washington. You may know that Dave died in a car accident in 1996. You may also remember him as a zesty musician who, with his pal, Larry Ricci, livened things up a time or two at Kennedy. We’re glad Sean resembles Dave so much.
I’m Dave’s mom and I wanted you to know that shortly after Dave’s death, I established music scholarships in Dave’s name. The scholarships help pay the tuition of deserving music students at Kennedy. The applicants, either vocal or instrumental students, write essays explaining why studying music is vital to them and a faculty committee makes the selections based on the applicants’ history, academic record, and the essays. Neither Mr. Paynton, nor Ms. Milasich is part of the selection committee. Winners are announced at the spring concert.
Friends and relatives have pitched in to help fund these scholarships, which have ranged from $500 to $750 each, and perhaps you might want to do the same. To tell the truth, we can use your help. We’d like to have at least two $750 scholarships offered each spring. I know, we are all watching every penny these days, but I want to keep these scholarships going and believe me, every penny will help.

I’m certain your memories of your years at JFK were as good as Dave’s were. (Perhaps yours were a little calmer?) My best to you and your families. Have a memory-filled reunion. Hugs all around.

I believe Dave was killed in a traffic accident. My Band geek brothers attended the funeral.Roberto Eastey
I believe Dave was killed driving home from a day of skiing. He had apparently fallen asleep at the wheel and went off the road.I was in Drum Corps, Marching Band and JFK Jazz Band with Dave. His music skills were remarkable. Dave played drums and piano, that I knew of, and probably other instruments. I remember being in awe of how good and fast he could read music.
Plus, he was an absolute natural leader (he was drum major for Drum Corps and JFK Marching Band); basically he could seamlessly manage 100+ people at one time.
The guy was very much liked by anyone and everyone who ever knew him. We had LOTS and LOTS of laughs with the guy.

Dave was a great person. I was also in Drum & Bugle Corp and Marching Band with him. He was such a talented musician and kept us laughing in band. I think he was one of 2 or 3 people that knew who placed those tombstones at the school one morning. I do miss his jokes, and the fun times we had with him in high school. I remember DeLatuer getting very upset with him when he tried to jump the staircase and broke his ankle. He was always a dare devil who loved life to its fullest.Amy Faherty

I remember Dave as an extrememly talented musician. Of course, he was also a fun-loving guy who was always keeping us in stitches and very modest about his talent. I never knew how serious it was until one day I heard him preparing for an audition for college or some such thing. I never knew the tympani's could sing so - I was completely mesmorised. After that he was playing something that he had written on the keyboards and it was amazing until we got too gushy in our enthusiam for him and he did something to cut us all up.
